Check eBay , there are 3 UK sellers at much less than Watford and a set will probably last a lifetime as they are so gently run in Phono.

Watch the US, last purchase I made was only for £50 inc post but customs held it up 2 weeks then added £7 vat and £8 collection fee. So the whole cost of the £35 item ended up at £65....

I got my 5751s from Tonbridge Audi Jumble, and I think they were £6 each.

Oscons arrived yesterday so, Gerry, I'll post 2 on Monday.

On the frames, yes they are hardwood frames for Maggies. Pictures to follow soon, when I've painted them. In the meantime you can check out the sort of thing I'm doing by going to Peter Gunn's Magnestand site:

Woah! The valves look good but I can't see the amp What do they sound like compared with 5751, did you get to compare them directly? They're also a close rather than exact equiv of ecc83, mu 90 and lower capacitance, did they change the riaa? Can we still get them, Neville wrote them up in Oct 2008 HFW issue, but someone here I think said they've stopped making them already?

There's a power switch on the front of the PSU now, but that's about the only difference.

The TechTube valves are very good but rather expensive, I bought the more expensive versions where the two halves are closely matched. £40 each!
Better than 5751's?... I'd have to say yes (I would, wouldn't I ) but not by much. Worth the extra expense?... probably not, it depends how much money you want to burn! They are very, very cool running and will probably last for years though, also, the website is still open ATM so it appears you can still buy them for the time being.

I've no idea what they've done to the RIAA response, I've never checked as I don't have the gear to do so. There's a couple more tweaks I'd like to incorporate into it and then I'll look into getting that sorted out.

Thinking about it, I seem to remember having a £15 paypal voucher I used, so the auction probably ended at more like forty quid. Still, ~£10 each is still a lot better than £25 +vat!

Oh dear that thread was just over a year back and I'd forgotten it , lovely build Worse, here I am going on about 5751 and it's taken me that long to try them. I see I mentioned 6072 - and what have I done today - before seeing your post - ordered 10 of the buggers for 300bpp and to try in Phono thinking it was a good progression of the 5751 idea... this is deja-vu in reverse for oldies methinks, anyone see Momento he he!

Ah well, I saw the Techtubes site was working and showing stock and got as far as checkout with an order but then decided to email them to be sure but it bounced. A bit of digging found this,

Wow! Sad to see that.
I was thinking of waiting for their promised KT88s but didn't in the end.
Great pity, but you never know what might emerge out of the ashes with thes "pre-Pack" deals when a firm goes insolvent.
Mike those valves might make some of the old NOS stuff look cheap in a few years time...don't burn them out!!!
